If you run a Synology or QNAP NAS and want to add IP cameras for surveillance, there’s one question that always comes up first: will this camera actually work with my NAS? Both vendors publish official compatibility lists, but they’re slow to search, awkward to filter, and don’t tell you much beyond a bare yes/no. So I built two free lookup tools to fix that.

- Synology camera compatibility database – 20,465 cameras pulled from Synology’s official Surveillance Station compatibility list.
- QNAP camera compatibility database – 7,487 cameras pulled from QNAP’s official QVR Pro compatibility list.
Both tools let you search by brand or model, filter by camera type and resolution, and sort by eBay price or an overall value score. Where I’ve been able to verify it, you’ll also see a product photo and a direct link to buy the camera on Amazon or eBay – no more guessing which listing actually matches the model you found.
One thing worth knowing about Synology compatibility
It’s easy to assume camera compatibility varies by which Synology NAS you own – a DS923+ supports one set of cameras, a DS1522+ supports another, and so on. That’s not actually how it works. Compatibility is driven by Device Pack version, which is shared across Synology’s entire NAS lineup. Any Synology NAS updated to the Device Pack a camera requires will support that camera, regardless of model. What genuinely differs by NAS model is your license count and hardware ceiling – a separate, smaller question from whether a given camera will work at all.
QNAP’s QVR Pro compatibility works more the way you’d expect – it’s simply a published list of tested, supported cameras.
Why this exists
I went through this exact headache while researching cameras for my own setup, and existing tools didn’t make it any easier – official compatibility pages are built for browsing one camera at a time, not for filtering across thousands of them or comparing prices. So I built the searchable version I wished existed, sourced directly from each vendor’s own published data, and I’m sharing it here.
